Fair fun at the Spring Festival Stuttgart

The Stuttgart Wasen has finally awaken from winter hibernation with a bang: from April 21 to May 13, 2018 the 77th annual Stuttgarter Frühlings-Fest (Spring Festival) will take place on the Cannstatter Wasen.

A regular highlight for young and old – experience spring fever in the marquees, and discover approximately 240 showmen, farmers and market traders as well as varied attractions. All combine over 23 great days to create Europe’s largest spring festival into an experience for the whole family.

Family Experience

Family-friendliness is promised – especially in the Easter holidays when the Wasen is an ideal destination for young and old. On all three Wednesdays of the festival, 19 and 26 April and 03 May, showmen, farmers and market traders offer all-day discounted rates on many attractions. In addition, there are surprises in store for younger visitors such as face painting, clowns, a fairy-tale carousel and a children’s train. There are plenty offers for all ages.

World Premiere – Freefall Tower

over 23 great days80 meters high and thus the highest transportable freefall tower in the world – the “Mega Tower King” awaits brave visitors – a world first and a huge adrenaline rush, if you dare! The brand new ride with a giant monkey figure on the top is inaugurated in the Baden-Württemberg state capital of Stuttgart at the Spring Festival.

Other attractions include the ” Voodoo Jumper” – a jaunty attraction for the family audience, or try the creepy ghost train “Haunted Mansion” if you ain’t afraid of ghosts and spooks.

Less nerve-wracking attractions include a maze, bumper cars, a roller coaster with a double loop (ok, some nerves required!) and of course the giant ferris wheel – perhaps the most enjoyable way to view the Wasen.

Fun in Festival Tents

Stuttgart Spring Festival

For those that like to dance in a Dirndl and get lively in Lederhosen: head to one of the three large marquees to experience the true meaning of a German Beer Tent – this is essentially just like Oktoberfest, without the trouble and expenses of going to Munich!

Enjoy a traditional German brass band blasting out live music from party hits to classics of pop and rock as well as some traditional German drinking songs. Get involved, dance on tables, lock arms with your neighbours – this is how Germans party and you will love it.

When the beer starts to go to your head, order up a traditional pork knuckle or a traditional plate of meats and cheeses.

All in all – it’s a terrific day out for friends, families or groups. To experience the festival at its best – go dressed in Trachten (traditional costume) – Dirndls for the ladies and Lederhosen for gents. Affordable Trachten can be found at C&A as well as other local department stores.
