They seem to be on almost every peak these days but there are a few igloo hotels / bars that really stand out. One of the best is the igloo bar on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, high above Zell am See / Kaprun. It is spacious enough to house numerous areas and an Audi car, as well as a serious big, round bar. It makes a great stop off point on the way down the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.

There have been many changes in recent winters including a major redevelopment of the top section of the ski area that now features a stunning look out platform, a tunnel through the peak and a small movie theatre. On the snow the opening up of huge swathes of off-piste has meant the development of a serious off-piste playground for those with fat skis and boards. There are avalanche and off-piste awareness centres at the top of these routes to help educate and keep safe those heading off-piste.

Back on piste the ski area in the region extends to the Maiskogel area on the edge of Kaprun that is ideal for families and beginners and the Zell am See Schmittenhohe area that lies directly above the fantastic lake side town of Zell am See. A ski pass covers all 3 areas with skiing possible on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier from October through to June and beyond this in the right conditions. Together the areas make up a great ski region and one that is really making some waves in the region.
