Although Germany doesn’t celebrate Halloween in the same way America does, there are still amazing and spooky goings-on around Deutschland. Those in search of Halloween fun don’t have to look far. The country hosts a wide range of events for couples, families and singles. Here are five places to start!
1. Frankenstein Halloween at Burg Königstein
Germany’s legendary Frankenstein Halloween has found a suitably spooky new home. After more than four decades at Burg Frankenstein, the event moved to the imposing ruins of Burg Königstein in the Taunus while its original castle undergoes extensive renovations.

Live shows and plenty of interaction with costumed monsters add to the experience, and the sprawling medieval ruins provide an atmospheric backdrop after dark.
Frankenstein Halloween takes place October 16–18, 23–25 and October 30–November 1. Friday and Saturday events run from 6–11 p.m., while Sundays offer an earlier experience from 1–6 p.m. Tickets include parking and shuttle transportation to the castle, as well as travel within the RMV public transportation network.
2. MoviePark Horror Fest
If you’re looking for an immersive experience for Halloween, then MoviePark Horror Fest is the place to be throughout October and into early November. Located north of Essen about 3.5 hours from Kaiserlslautern, the typically family friendly park will be transformed into Horrorwood studios.
Expect to be besieged by monsters, zombies and other gruesome creatures as night falls over the park. The park has hosted Horror Fest for more than 20 years, and this year’s event features its famous horror labyrinth (tickets are required).
Afterwards you can take a calm nap at the local horror hostel, unless flesh-eating monsters find you first, that is. The park offers its own special accommodation for the event.
3. Burg Satzvey Halloween
Located 2.5 hours north of Kaiserslautern, the Eifel castle of Burg Satzvey is an excellent place for a Halloween adventure. This is the way to do Halloween, a little in advance of Halloween (on October 24 and October 31, this year). Families are welcome in the early afternoon for some “less scary” fun. But when the sun goes down at 6 p.m., the good (and more scary) times begin.

Afterward, there’s an outstanding party that lasts almost until November. If you act soon enough, you might even be able to book a room in the castle.
4. Halloween at Europa Park
Europa Park is one of Germany’s best amusement parks. Located just a little more than 2 hours away from Kaiserslautern, it also boasts an amazing Halloween scene. The park has an excellent blend of both light and heavy Halloween scenes. Pumpkins and hay bales abound. So day strange masked creatures, and goblins, and vampires, and…well, you should go see for yourself.
During the Halloween Season (October into early November), the park is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit https://www.europapark.de/en/theme-park/info/plan-your-visit/eerily-beautiful-halloween-europa-park for ticket information.
5. Halloween at Burg Spangenberg
For a Halloween celebration close to Kaiserslautern, head into the Pfälzerwald to Burg Spangenberg. On October 31, the medieval castle gets into the spirit with spooky decorations, creepy food and drinks, costumes, and plenty of Halloween atmosphere.
The fun begins at noon, with free face painting for kids starting at 2 p.m. Castle tours at 4 and 6 p.m. offer visitors another way to explore the centuries-old fortress, which is plenty atmospheric even before the ghosts, zombies, witches and trolls arrive. Costumes are encouraged, making this an easy Halloween day trip for families from the KMC area!
