Weekly Outdoor Markets in Kaiserslautern, Stuttgart

Looking for an easy, enriching, and quintessentially German experience? Look no further than the variety of outdoor and farmers’ markets in Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart.

German outdoor markets are a cultural experience unto themselves. You can find almost everything a person needs to survive and thrive: bread, meat, cheese, plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers, conversation, and much more, depending on the market. As a bonus, outdoor markets guarantee a hearty dose of fresh air, a fun outing, and a splash of color during gray German days (which, as we all know, can happen pretty much in any season).

Whatever market you choose, the important thing is just to go, and to build a practice of going. There are lots of unmissable sites in Germany: your local farmers’ market is one of them!

Kaiserslautern Markets

Large K-town markets are held every Tuesday and Saturday in the Stiftplatz (the big pedestrian square in the center of town) from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Plan to stay a while. Bring a cup of coffee with you and don’t hesitate to buy something – especially if you’ve never done so before. German markets will change your shopping life.

Another smaller market is held Thursdays on Königstrasse. More information is available from Kaiserslauterer Wochenmarkt.

Stuttgart Markets

If you live in or near Stuttgart, you’re in luck: you’ll find 32 markets that take place weekly around the city (this makes sense, given that Stuttgart has approximately seven times more people than Kaiserslautern). Stuttgart even has a handy website that lets you find a market that is best for you.
